Creative Solutions to Clean up the Ocean

Art Medium: Mural Painting

Partner: IDAMHO (Institute of Environmental Rights in Honduras)

 Location: Omoa, Honduras

Artist: Claudia Dubón

Plastic debris is a growing problem in the coastal community of Omoa, Honduras. The contamination of the environment from local trash is further exacerbated by large amounts of floating plastic brought in by ocean currents. During this Creative Action Practicum, a group of students participated in a workshop analyzing the problems of plastic pollution, air pollution, oil spills, deforestation, and drought, and then generated solutions as a group to better care for the planet. Out of this workshop, they created a community mural to educate and raise awareness in the Omoa community and the local government  around the problem of  environmental pollution.

“I found it interesting how we developed our creativity and created a mural based on questions and possible solutions to the problem of environmental pollution in our communities.”
