Theater Changes Views on Child Marriage

Art Medium: Theater

Partner: Triumph Uganda

Location: Jinja, Uganda

Artist: Bob Kisiki

The girls at PMM secondary school in Jinja Uganda used their creative advocacy practicum to raise awareness in their community around the problem of early/child marriage. The girls worked with a local theater artist to design a play with key messages on the causes and negative effects of child marriage. The girls identified poverty and the lack of parental/guardian support as some of the contributing factors to early/child marriage.

"Because of the drama we made, we hope the community will learn not to engage their young girls into early marriage... I want the community to implement strict laws against it" -Frahana
